Xuanwu Lake Park and small breakthroughs

This morning we went to Xuanwu Lake, the largest lake in Nanjing with an  area of 444 hectares.  And I might eat a chicken foot (yes, they're on our breakfast buffet) in honor of the first person to tell me what a hectare is.  It was refreshing to get out of the urban-ness for a few hours.
More split pants.  The other day Vince watched a child go #2 on the sidewalk.

Red ribbons tied to "lucky trees" for Dragon Boat Festival

In honor of International Children's Day we watched a parade of children's marching bands.  Favorite part?  Unicycles!

Jiushu was quite fussy all morning unless we were moving.  The very second we ceased to move, even on the bus, he would begin crying.  He took a good nap after we returned from the park, and we've made some progress this afternoon.  Jiushu had his first poo (since being with us) and ate some noodles.  Up to this point, he has eaten very little other than a few bottles.  He is more content, is making good eye contact, babbling, and is growing more receptive to our comfort and feeding.  And he has given mama a few smiles!  Oh, that does my heart good! We are celebrating these baby steps today.

A million thank-yous to all who are praying and posting on the blog!  I am so comforted and encouraged by your comments...please keep them coming.

Jerusha - Your son is gorgeous, he sounds like he is doing very well and I am happy to hear he had such a strong attachment to his nanny (that is a great sign!). Hope you all survive the difficult times (and no doubt you will). Enjoy the rest of your trip and getting to love on your little boy before you return home. We'll keep praying for you and your family. Laurie
